Position: Band Teacher 

Role Description: 

As the band teacher at Élan Academy, you will inspire and nurture the musical talents of our students, foster a love for music, and develop their instrumental performance skills.

Responsibilities: 

• Embody & Élan Academy’s mission, vision, and values;

• Participate in an annual summer staff orientation and training;

• Design and implement a comprehensive band curriculum aligned with state standards and best practices in music education.

• Deliver engaging and effective music instruction through ensemble rehearsals, sectionals, and individual lessons.

• Incorporate various teaching strategies and techniques to cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.

• Prepare students for performances, competitions, and other musical events.

• Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and musical expression.

• Motivate and inspire students to develop their musical abilities, confidence, and appreciation for the arts.

• Provide constructive feedback and guidance to support student growth and development.

• Plan and coordinate band concerts, performances, and other musical events throughout the academic year.

• Collaborate with school administrators, staff, and parent organizations to ensure successful event execution.

• Promote and advocate for the band program within the school and community.

• Manage and maintain the band program's resources, including instruments, sheet music, and equipment.

• Develop and manage the band program's budget in collaboration with school administration.

• Comply with school policies, procedures, and regulations related to music education and student activities.

• Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices and trends in education.

• Contribute to the school's overall educational mission and support cross-curricular initiatives as needed.

• Complete any other tasks deemed necessary to ensure scholar success. 

Qualifications: 

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field from an accredited institution.

• Valid Louisiana teaching certification in Music Education for the appropriate grade levels. Preferred

• Proven experience in teaching band and instrumental music at the middle school level.

• Strong knowledge of music theory, conducting techniques, and instrumental pedagogy.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and colleagues.

• Proficiency in various instrumental techniques and the ability to instruct multiple instruments.

• Passion for music education and a commitment to fostering student creativity and self-expression.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

• Ability to stand, walk, stoop, and bend for extended periods.

• Ability to assist students with physical tasks as needed.
